Recollections of Grandma

By Shelly Ruben

Aroma of fresh baked challas

The delicious moon shaped cookies

The fish swimming in the tub for gefilte fish

Her climbing the apple tree for apples for the pie

Her servings of at least 12 pancakes for each of us

Being smothered and lost in her bosom with hugs

Her keeping a mans hat on the bannister to frighten possible burglars

Her washing the white stone steps on Broadway

Her "Mine Shaniker kinder" when she saw us

Her dancing with hands on hips to the heartbeat of life

But most of all: Her love and affection for all of us and our love and affection in return
