The Ship's Manifest from the Peck family's trip from Europe to America
/This is the ship's Manifest from the family's trip to America. Joel has provided this interpretation of the document. Lines 21-25 pertain to the "Parker" family, which arrived in Philadelphia on December 7, 1907 (a Saturday) aboard the S.S. Haverford. The Haverford sailed from Liverpool, England on a Monday, November 25, 1907. Line 21 provides the following information about "Schevel" (probably a misspelling of Shaul (pronounced SHAool] Samuel's Hebrew name): Upon arrival he was 27 years of age and married (Col. 3 and 5); his occupation was that of a "joiner" ("a person whose occupation is to construct articles by joining pieces of wood") (Col. 6); he could not read or write (Col. 7); his nationality was Russian and his race was Hebrew (Col. 8 and 9); his nearest relative in Russia was his mother, Bozirvor (?), in Kiev (Col. 11); his final destination was Baltimore, Maryland, for which he had a ticket (Col. 12 and 14); his passage was paid by his father-in-law (Col. 15); the amount of money he possessed was "nil" (Col. 16); he had never before been in the United States (Col. 17); he was going to join his father-in-law, B. Dorman, 303 Eden Street, Baltimore (Col. 18); he was not a polygamist or an anarchist (Col. 20 and 21); his mental and physical health were good (Col. 23); he was not deformed or crippled (Col. 24); his height was 5'4'', his complexion was dark and his eyes were brown (Col. 25, 26 and 27); he had no identifying marks (Col. 28); and, he was born in Kiev, Russia (Col. 29). Line 22 provides the following information about Yochevet (Eva): Upon arrival she was 26 years of age and could read and write (Col. 3 and 7); she was 51611 tall, had a fair complexion, fair hair and brown eyes (Col. 25, 26 and 27); under "Marks of Identification" (Col. 28), the entry reads "Dr. notes pregnant" (with William, whose birthdate is February 22, 1908). Lines 23-25 (Col. 3) indicate that, upon arrival, Luba (Lubah) was 4 years old; Moishe (Morris) was 2 years old; and, Jondel (Julius) was 6 months old.
