MAN KILLED BY FALLING WALL

TWO INJURED IN ACCIDENT ON GAY ST

One man was killed and two injured today when the wall of a building they were tearing down at Gay and Forrest streets collapsed, burrying them beneath tons of bricks and mortor.

The dead man is Samuel Pecker, 40, of 403 N. Broadway, head of the Pecker Construction Co.

The injured are John Carter, 1805 E. Madison st., and John McNear, 1420 Silver Court.

The two latter were cut and bruised, but physicians at Mercy Hospital said they are not seriously injured.

Three walls of the building had been torn down and the three men with several other workmen were in an excavation loosening the bricks in the final wall which adjoined the building next door.

Suddenly there was a crack and withour warning the wall tumbled down upon them.

With picks and shovels, workmen began digging Pecker out, but it was nearly 20 minutes before he could be removed. He died a few minutes after he had been taken to Mercy Hospital.

The Goldstein Department Store is to be built on the site.
